Oriental Bay is Wellington's beach in the city, with Oriental Parade, the Carter Fountain, Freyberg Pool and the promenade ten minutes on foot from Courtenay Place.

Oriental Bay is Wellington's front. The beach and Freyberg Beach face north across the harbour, the Parade runs along the water from Te Papa to the point, and the whole city walks, runs and cycles it on a fine day.
The houses climb the hill behind the Parade, and the apartments along it have the harbour, the Carter Fountain and the ferries in every window. St Gerard's on the hillside is the landmark you see from everywhere else.
Freyberg Pool is on the waterfront, the band rotunda is the meeting point, and the cafes along the Parade run from gelato to long lunches with the bay in front of you.
Courtenay Place and Te Papa are a ten-minute walk west, the Mount Victoria lookout is up the hill behind, and the path along the water continues round Evans Bay to Kilbirnie.
