Miramar
Miramar is Wellington's film suburb, on the flat of the Miramar Peninsula next to the airport, with Weta Workshop, the Roxy Cinema and the studios in the village and the peninsula's beaches round the hill.
Why people love it here
Miramar is where Wellington's film industry lives. Weta Workshop is on Weka Street, Stone Street Studios and Park Road Post are working sites round the corner, and the Roxy on Park Road is the art-deco cinema the industry restored for itself and opened to everyone.
The village on Miramar Avenue and Park Road has the cafes, the bars and the shops, and the flat streets behind it are full of the villas and bungalows of a suburb that was laid out a century ago and has kept its shape.
The rest of the peninsula is the weekend. Scorching Bay and Worser Bay are a few minutes over the hill, Seatoun's village and wharf are at the end of the road, Mount Crawford's summit walk is above Maupuia, and the road round the point is the city's favourite loop.
The airport is next door, the bus through the Mount Victoria tunnel puts the city fifteen minutes away, and Miramar Central, Miramar North and Worser Bay Schools are the primaries, with Rongotai College the local secondary.
