Seatoun
Seatoun is the seaside village suburb of Wellington at the end of the Miramar Peninsula, with its own wharf, its own beach and its own high street on Dundas Street.
Why people love it here
Seatoun feels like a small town that happens to be in the city. Dundas Street has the community cafe, the gastropub, the butcher and the Four Square, the beach is at the end of the road with the playground and the changing sheds, and the wharf runs out into the harbour for fishing and summer swims.
The houses are the villas and bungalows of the early 1900s on the flat, and the newer homes up the slopes behind, and a lot of families have been here for generations.
The harbour entrance is the view. Ships come in past the wharf, Matiu/Somes Island sits in the middle of the water, and Point Dorset and the old Fort Dorset are the headland walk at the end of the bay.
Through the Pass of Branda the coast road runs to Breaker Bay and round to Lyall Bay, Worser Bay and Scorching Bay are a few minutes north, and Seatoun School is the primary at the heart of it.
